Getting Back Into the Gym After a Break

Coming back to the gym after weeks, months or even years away is one of the hardest steps, and one of the most common. The good news is that getting back into it is far simpler than most people expect. Here is a realistic way to start.

Start smaller than you think

The biggest mistake returning gym-goers make is trying to pick up where they left off. Begin with two or three sessions a week and leave each one feeling like you could have done a little more. Consistency beats intensity in the early weeks.

Focus on showing up

For the first month, the goal is simply to build the habit. Do not worry about personal bests. Every session you turn up to is a win that makes the next one easier.

Get a plan and some support

Walking in without a plan is how people end up wandering between machines and losing motivation. A simple program, or a coach who sets one for you, removes the guesswork and keeps you progressing safely.

Make it easy to keep going

Pick a gym that is close, open when you are free, and welcoming enough that you want to come back. If you are in or around Reservoir, you are welcome to try T1 Performance free for 7 days and let our coaches help you ease back in. Find us at 9 Parer Street, Reservoir VIC 3073.
